Get ready for a thrilling journey in the Dungeons & Dragons Filmmaking camp with CinemaKidz! Imagine, design, and step into your character’s shoes, as we dive into the game and create an enchanting story over the week. Watch as our game progresses and our script dynamically transforms. As the narrative unfolds, you’ll embody your characters, bringing the tale to life through the magic of filmmaking. You’ll have the opportunity to craft costumes, act, film, direct, and edit a short film, which grows and changes with the gameplay. Embrace the thrill of the unknown, because there’s a world of adventure hidden in every corner of this extraordinary camp!This Week, campers will:- Dive into D & D gameplay as it relates to storytelling and sci-fi/fantasy
- Develop characters and personas
- Focus on Art Direction: costumes, props, and sets
- Experiment with visual techniques: lighting, color balance, unique cinematography, and more
- Dive into the fundamentals of editing & experiment with SFX to create awesome magical and fantasy effects
- Learn how to make a short film from start to finish
- Experiment with stop motion to bring their tale to life!

Costumes, Props Art Direction, & SFX Make-up

Create Costumes, props, and Set Design!
If there’s a budding Artist and creator in you, filled with ideas, and searching for the right tools and techniques to create real cinematic looks and effects, then you’ve come to the right place! The CK Team will show you the ropes of what it means to create a cinematic world, from the make up and effects, to set dressing, prop-making, and costume design. Learn how to make something new look 1000 years old, create fantastical costumes for goblins and Star Wars characters, build props and create effects for a real film set, and try your hand at special effects make-up looks. This camp is for the artist and creative kid, and is completely hands on and project driven. Kids will also build their very own 3D sets, and learn how to “set dress” like the pros.
Each day students will focus on a different hands-on prop making and costume design technique, and finish the week off with a showcase displaying all the projects, props, and costumes created. Participants will also work as the Art Department for other projects going on at camp for the week.
The Week, Campers Will:
- Practice various practical special effects using both professional materials as well as home items
- Utilize professional and age-appropriate tools to build sets and props for a video project
- Learn to design, plan, and sew costume elements using a variety pf materials
- Make a short film from star to finish showcasing the sfx, props, and costumes created over the week

Storyboarding, Comics & Digital Animation

Learn to illustrate and animate!
Learn all about film shot composition, storyboarding, and visual storytelling by designing a superhero character, and making your own comic book and digital animation! Participants will improve their drawing skills through the staging and drafting of an original visual story concept they create on paper. Participants will dive into drawing techniques and create original characters, personalities. Next, the comic will be translated into a digital drawing, as kids learn to bring their comic to life using Procreate! Kids will learn frame-by-frame animation and bring their animation to life with digital animation! Finally, children will have the opportunity to design and build their very own character costume, and film a short component of their story.
The Week, Campers Will:
- Learn about the fundamentals of illustration & drawing
- Practice visual storytelling & dialogue creation for a graphic novel
- Participate in various drawing exercises and games!
- Explore digital animation techniques guided by a professional

Our daring campers embark on a quest, armed with an enigmatic map and eager to decode the secrets of the local park. Participants will confront electrifying challenges, and unearth the concealed treasure straight from NYC’s forested underworld. The twist? You’re the star of your own epic adventure movie, directing, acting, and editing while combating formidable foes and beastly creatures with mind-blowing special effects! The thrill starts with inventing unique characters and a captivating backstory, while deciphering the cryptic map. Each day brings a fresh quest, as you venture into the park, capturing your courageous tale, then return to the camp to sprinkle magic and excitement in your film with imaginative editing. Ready to discover your treasure by week’s end? Join us to solve the mystery!
The Week, Campers Will:
- Learn & practice making a film project from start to finish
- Go on a Camp created adventure quest including: maps, prizes, role playing, and outdoor exploration elements
- Head outside and learn and map reading, orienteering, and more
- Focus on editing and special effects to complete an adventure tale
